Open Meeting and Tea Dance

April 6, 2014

It has been a very busy weekend for the organ fund team. On Saturday afternoon we held an open meeting about the Heritage Lottery Funded Willis Pipe Organ Restoration and Reach-out project in the Parish Hall to give more details about what we will be doing for the next three years and to encourage people to volunteer their help. We explained about the 6 themes of the project:

  1. Organ restoration
  2. Research the organ history and create an online record
  3. Produce Learning resources in audio, web and print formats
  4. Train volunteer guides to support events
  5. Undertake a Community music programme ‘Music for all at SMSG’
  6. Run an Education programme

Several people offered their expertise and assistance to the project during the afternoon and we had some very good conversations with them. The organ was played and enjoyed too. Photos of the Open Meeting can be viewed at https://www.flickr.com/photos/78058413@N06/sets/72157643537365155/

On Sunday afternoon SMSG band hosted a Tea Dance in the church school hall (the Parish Hall too small for a Tea Dance) and we were absolutely delighted that 49 people arrived to dance or watch the dancing, 5 people helped with serving refreshments and 16 members of the band provided all the music for dancing. There was a raffle during the tea interval and the total raised towards the missing pipes in the Willis organ was £328. A special thank you to Lesley for organizing this event, Peter D (band member) for choosing the music the band played, everyone who helped and SMSG school for the use of the hall.
